I am super excited to announce that we were able to reach and surpass our $3000 goal for breast cancer awareness month. With everything that we’ve done through apparel sales, book sales, and donations collected from our hybrid in-person and virtual U-Jam Fitness fundraising event classes and a special Instagram class, we were able to raise $3215 thus far. As the video states, we are still taking orders for the photography book, “Profiles of Strength: Photography of Breast Cancer Survivors in Fitness”, that will feature both the photos and the unique inspirational and insightful stories of 15 incredible human beings. I have personally learned a great deal from the messages that these women have shared, and I know that you will too. The deadline for orders before we go into production will be November 8th. I would like to add that these achievements would not have been possible without the concerted efforts of so many different people. This is truly a testament of what is possible when people come together for a cause and that anyone has the capacity to make a difference no matter what sex, race, age, or background they might be or what skill set they might possess. I have personally been inspired these last months by so many, and I look forward to continually doing more, sharing more, and building more on top of what we have shown is possible.
Furthermore, I want to make sure “Breast Cancer Awareness” just does not end up as a one month of the year type thing. Several models from the “Profiles of Strength” photography book have mentioned that early detection has made a difference, so be sure to keep those checks up all year long. Keep A Breast has created an app that reminds you monthly to check your breasts and walks you through how to do a self-check. On top of that don’t forget to get your exercise in, as 30 minutes of exercise 3-5 times a week can lower your risk of developing breast cancer by 30-50%.
